Chequemates Folk "n" Roots Club was founded in 1991
and has been running at the Coton & Hopwas Social Club
since its 3rd year.This is when it moved from The Chequers
at the time it changed to the Tame Otter.
In addition to the regular guests such as the Claret Folk Roots Trio
there are frequent famous guests.
A recent visitor was Sally Barker (recent runner up in "The Voice")

A multi-instrumental & vocal trio
who are celebrating 25 years of entertaining local folk lovers.
Made up of Sandra & Tim Robinson
on guitar, mandolin, accordion, bodhran & flute
with Bryan Widdowson on bass & acoustic guitar
backing vocals & percussion.
Claret describe themselves as " Folk/Roots/Celtic"
with hints of Jazz, diverse & different.
